A very tight branching, compact Red Twigged Dogwood, with slender, deep green leaves tinged with red which turn crimson red in the fall. Clusters of white flowers bloom in mid spring and small blue fruits ripen mid to late fall.
Blooms heavily with white, fragrant flower spikes April to May. Fall leaves are bright neon hues of yellow, orange and red. A beautiful and under-used plant.
Accent plant with reddish-purple foliage even after spring flowers have left, giving contrast to surrounding green foliage. No troublesome suckers. Upright shrub or small tree.
This selection is not typical when compared to others because it's columnar. Most Elders are tall and wide, but not 'Black Tower'. The foliage is dark purple and it looks very large and leathery. Pink flowers followed by pink berries in fall.
